Elgon Kahawa Park (EKP) Ltd
Elgon Kahawa Park (EKP) Ltd is an agro-industrial initiative focused on transforming the Mount Elgon region of Eastern Uganda into a global hub for specialty Arabica coffee processing, roasting, and export.
Mount Elgon is internationally recognized for producing some of Africa’s finest Arabica coffee due to its rich volcanic soils, high altitudes, and favorable climate. However, much of the coffee produced in the region is exported in raw form, limiting the income potential for farmers and the broader local economy. Elgon Kawa Park was established to address this challenge by introducing modern processing infrastructure, value addition, and direct access to international markets.
The company aims to build a fully integrated coffee ecosystem that connects farmers, processors, exporters, and global buyers. By investing in modern coffee processing facilities, specialty roasting systems, quality control laboratories, and export logistics, EKP Ltd will significantly enhance the value and global competitiveness of Mount Elgon coffee.
A key priority of the initiative is farmer integration and empowerment. Elgon Kahawa Park plans to work with 100,000 to 200,000 smallholder farmers across the Bugisu and Sebei sub-regions by providing training in Good Agricultural Practices, access to improved seedlings and farm inputs, and digital traceability systems that ensure premium quality coffee for international markets.
Beyond economic growth, EKP Ltd is designed to generate strong social and community impact. The project is expected to create over 2,000 direct jobs and approximately 5,000 indirect jobs across processing, logistics, warehousing, quality control, marketing, and export operations. By improving farmer incomes and creating employment opportunities, the initiative will contribute to poverty reduction and regional economic development.
Elgon Kahawa Park is also committed to sustainable and responsible coffee production. The project promotes climate-smart agriculture, environmental conservation, and transparent supply chains that align with global sustainability standards.
